Welcome to Millom School online

Here at Millom School, we are proud of our achievements and of our reputation both locally and nationally. We are also proud of our students, our staff and our community. Together, we aim to provide an inclusive community of learners in which young people can flourish. Each and every learner, young person and adult alike, will realise their potential: a potential that we will feed through out their time at Millom School. A number of factors contribute to this, a vitally important one of which is enjoyment. This is why we work hard to ensure that lessons are stimulating, enjoyable and where appropriate, fun. Millom school is an enjoyable place to be, a place where staff and students have pride in their work, and a place where students desire to learn.

Our specialist status carries with it the responsibility of providing learning opportunities outside of the school walls; reaching out to the partner schools and to the wider community. This includes strong links with Millom Children’s centre and our primary schools. As a community school, we work to develop our extended services provision, through a range of partners. One of these partners is Millom network centre.

We provide a learning environment that allows the students to prepare themselves not only for the challenges of formal examinations, but also the challenges of life. Through our healthy schools status, we are able to help promote healthy lifestyles and good physical and mental health. We ensure that students are protected from harm and neglect, are encouraged to make a positive contribution and get involved within the local community. Students feel strongly that ‘their views are heard’ and the staff and students show ‘ambition for the school and keenness to play their part in further improving it’.

As a parent of school-aged children myself, I am very much aware that young learners only get one chance at their formal education. Those of us lucky to be working with young people aspire to provide a happy and secure learning environment which needs to be fun, stimulating and challenging. If learners are enjoying and achieving we have succeeded. At Millom we seek to create life-long learners in possession of the skills, flexibility, enterprise and enthusiasm that they need to be successful in the twenty-first century.

We look to the future with optimism, enthusiasm and eagerness to truly be a school for the community. We must keep learning ourselves, in order to develop still further our school; Millom school.
